There are 24 hectares (59.3 acres) of pitahaya in production and 6 hectares (15 acres) planted, which guarantee the capability to offer over 384,000 KG (844,000 LB) a year of a fleshy, unique, sweet pitahaya, which is not found anywhere else in the world.

On June 22, 2018, the National Intellectual Rights Service of Ecuador delivered the certificate of denomination of origin to the Amazonian pitahaya of Palora, a certificate that offers a protection to producers against possible falsifications and assures consumers they will obtain a constant level of quality.
